| The old road to Brasov runs down the right (west) bank of the Olt
river to Harman, passing through ILIENI (Illyefalva), 9km south of
Sfântu Gheorghe. Buses from Sfântu Gheorghe to Doboli de Jos halt in the
village where the whitewashed church , built in 1782-86 and beautifully
restored in 1990, dominates the whole area from its hill top. At the
bottom of the hill, the Reformat priest has created an ecumenical
conference and youth centre, encompassing within its grounds a model
farm, meat and dairy processing plants, accommodation ($6-10) in the
church's defensive towers, and a children's village in which adult
couples live with groups of four orphans, staying together for up to
twenty years. |
